This year I found out about Esperanto, the international and neutral language, which is also the world’s easiest to learn. It encourages open cultural exchange without preference to any particular speaker. I very much liked the idea, but I wanted to see if it really worked! So, I signed up to the first international Summer Esperanto Study program in Slovakia, which was organized by Lernu ; a website for learning Esperanto for free. I saw an international community that I never knew existed. I found out that Esperanto isn’t just a language; it’s people and ideas that work together. I hope that this video shows exactly why this was only the first of many Esperanto events that I will be going to.

If you would like to see more, there are photos and all the unedited videos on my flickr profile.

I have just come back from an international holiday in Plouezec, Brittany, where the only language used was Esperanto. 150 people from Britain, Germany, Russia, Poland all spent a week talking, singing, and learning together usiing this delightful language. It really works, and deserves more than just grass-roots support. 150 people from Britain, Germany, Russia, Poland all spent a week talking, singing, and learning together usiing this delightful language. I really love Esperanto, but it isn’t the world’s easiest language anymore: since Toki Pona a language of only 118 has been developped. (Based upon the semantic fundamentals of all languages.)

I agree with Benny that it is a composite of culture, temperament, history, and linguistics because of it being selected as the axis for the Selten/Pool (e) model study. I also agree w/Pieter that Esperanto is not the world’s easiest language mainly because language is not just the use of words, but the utterances of thought and emotion. Way complex.
Meanwhile, I fell in LOVE with Esperanto thanks to Benny and I shall be there next year.
